Yay for Thanksgiving! What other holiday lets you eat till you pass out?! But other than the eating, there are so many reasons why I love Thanksgiving. First, it brings people together, especially families. With the hustle and bustle of the world we live in, it's nice to just sit down and enjoy a meal with family. Second, I love how this holiday makes people realize what they're thankful for. I especially love how it makes ME realize how blessed I am. I tend to criticize my life more than I should. This verse really keeps me in check..."Where you are right now is God's place for you. Live and obey and love and believe right there. God defines your life." 1 Corinthians 7:17 (MSG). Thirdly, I LOVE LOVE LOVE having a day (or 2!) off :)
A few things I am thankful for...
My amazing husband. Without him, I would be lost. He balances my personality like no one else can.
My church. I would not be the person I am today without Radiant. I have grown into such a better person and I know it's because Radiant has taught me to use my talents and gifts to do the work of God. It has also opened up a new chapter in our lives full of ministry work with The District. I never knew working with young adults could be so rewarding. I love every second I spend with those people and thank God for giving me the opportunity to help young people grow closer to Him.
My fur-babies. Riley, Numy & Emma are the lights of my life. Those crazy animals make me happier than pretty much anything. Just looking at them brightens even the most horrible day.
My family. My mom and sister are my two most favoritest people on this Earth (besides Matt). I never get tired of talking to them or being with them. Moving 2,000 miles away from them has been the hardest thing I've ever done, but it's also strengthened our relationship. I wish my relationship with my dad wasn't so rocky, but all I can do is pray that he wakes up someday and starts living his life right. Until then, it's sad to say, but I like being so far away from him. I also have the best in-laws a girl could ask for. They are so amazing and so supportive and I cherish each of them.
Our health. For the most part, we are very healthy individuals and I am so thankful for that. Literally, every time I've EVER been to the doctor, they say the same thing...well, there's nothing wrong with you. Sometimes I think they are full of crap, but 99% of the time I am happy to hear it.
Our friends. We have been blessed with some amazing friends. I have more friends right now than I've ever had in my life. I am lucky to still have my core group of girlfriends from high school & college and what's funny is that I seem to be getting closer and closer to some of them even though we live so far away. I never thought I would be so lucky as to have such amazing people in my life.
Our jobs. In this day and age, pretty much everyone has to work. I can honestly say that I love my job and don't mind going to work everyday. I love being surrounded by people who love Jesus and I also love helping other people get to know Jesus. I am thankful for Matt's job too. He loves his job and I know that God created him to be a teacher.
God choosing us to help children in need. I can't believe how far we have come in the last two years. From desperate and lonely to happy and hopeful; that can only be God's doing. Having doctors tell you that your worst fears are now your reality puts you at an all time low, but knowing that God is faithful and has a plan for you gives you hope. This verse has kept me going throughout the last two years..."Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see." Hebrews 11:1. We now understand what we are supposed to be doing and even though it's still tough, we are faithful servants.
Of course this list is not all that I am thankful for, just the tip of the iceberg.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
