There are so many reasons that I don't blog much. The number one reason being that I have no freaking time! But I think of that as a good problem to have :) Another reason is that I get so "excited" about issues and want to go on a rant, but then reality hits me and I think, "do my family & friends really want to read about my latest rant?" and the answer is usually NO. But I think this rant is worth posting!
I would like to add a disclaimer (seems like everything in life has a disclaimer these days, so this rant will have one too!) - I don't hate people who drink! Please don't send me an email or unfriend me on facebook because I ranted about alcohol. Most of my friends and family understand why I feel the way I do about alcohol, and if you don't, clearly you do not know me well! And if you really want to know more about my reasons, then you can email me :)
While watching the news the other night, a reporter did a story on the alarming number of teenagers "sexting" - sending inappropriate messages via text message. The reporter acted shocked and the parents that were interviewed acted shocked too. I on the other hand was not shocked. Have these parents seen what is on TV these days?! Everything we watch on television has has bad stuff in it. Even the Disney shows we let our kids watch contain innapropriate comments and seem to be focused on outward beauty. We wonder why kids are trying drugs to "escape reality". When your reality doesn't match up to the reality that is the reality we see on "reality TV" or TV shows in general, it gets frustrating.
To add to the TV issue, while at lunch today, I saw part of the Today Show with Kathy Lee Gifford - I know, I know, but there was not much else on. I've never seen the show, other than when it's on The Soup and being mocked for being such a stupid hour of drunkenness. I can see why it's on The Soup all the time. Kathy Lee & Hoda are drinking WINE during the show. Okay, the show is on at 11am, and on a network channel....and did I mention it's on at 11am? As if Kathy Lee is not annoying enough, giving her wine makes her even more obnoxious. Is there point "let's show the world that it's okay to get hammered before noon as long as we're 'funny drunks'?" [this was the part about me not hating people who drink alochol - in case you didn't catch that, haha]
Nope. Not a show for me. So I got mad & turned the channel. Bethenny, that looked interesting. Oh my geesh was I wrong. The top of discussion: vibrators. Yes, you read that correct, the battery powered sex toy. They were giving them away like candy on Halloween. I.WAS.DISGUSTED.
Now we can see how our children are exposed to icky things. It's not like I was watching HBO, it was network TV at 11am. We live in a sad, sad world and it needs more Jesus!
I agree with you 100% Becky!
