{Clean Eating}

I find it funny that people do not know what is in their food. For real, have YOU ever looked at the ingredients of your childs favorite snack? Can you pronounce all of them? Have you ever researched what some of those words mean? And worse, what they can do to your child? I am as guilty as the next guy. But recently I have started researching what GMO means and what the difference between organic and non-organic really means. And I love researching, so I've been doing a lot of it.

Stating in January, I became tired, really tired. I was getting headaches more often than I like and did I mention I was tired? Because I was! I started taking vitamin B supplements but it made me sick. I even got the dreaded mystery shot {you can read more about that HERE}. I thought I had mono at one point because I was so tired. Then there was a point I thought I had hyperthyroid issues so I talked to the doctor about the tiredness and my rapid heart rate and he ordered blood work to be done and the results showed nothing new. So I went on with my life, dealing with the crazy scary heart rate issues and trying to deal with the tiredness.

In May/June, I thought I had a bad case of athlete's foot, gross I know, and it was driving me nuts because nothing was making it better! Then it spread...to my hands. At that point, I knew I had to go to the doctor. I showed a friend the sores all over my hands and feet and she knew what is was immediately, CANDIDA. Long story short {kinda short!}, I was forced to change my diet to gluten free. At first, I didn't know what gluten was! After researching it for hours and hours, I am so happy that I am now gluten free. And honestly it's not as hard as I thought it would be.

A friend said to me recently "why do you have to eat all this fancy food? why can't you eat regular food like they did back in the day?!" Oh, my bad, I guess I didn't realize that my great grandparents ate Cheetos and red dye 40 back in the day! Yes, of course, they ate food that was genetically modified to make it grow faster and be resistant to pesticides. DUH, BECKY! Oh wait, they didn't. That's right, I'm the one eating more like our great grandparents did. Well well well, how about that.

I am learning that I enjoy eating simpler foods. I actually don't eat as much as I once did, so budget-wise, it all works itself out. It's funny how when you eliminate a lot or most of the "extra" things in your food, the food actually fills you up! So if you are curious, I dare you to start researching CLEAN EATING. I guarantee you will not regret it :)
